Security

Built for what
should never
be handled
lightly.

AfterMyLife is designed around privacy, security, controlled access, and
responsible handling of highly sensitive information.

01 · The starting point

Trust starts with restraint

When a service deals with wishes, personal messages, future transmission, and sensitive documents, trust must be built into the product from the beginning.

The first security decision is often deciding what not to ask for. A responsible service should not treat every detail as an opportunity to collect more information, and it should not make people trade privacy for convenience.

Security, in this context, is not only about systems. It is about seriousness, restraint, and the understanding that what people prepare here may be deeply personal. AfterMyLife begins with the character of the information itself and treats what it holds with deliberate care.

“Security begins before a piece of information enters the room.”

02 · The private record

Private by design

Not all information should be visible, shared, or treated equally. Some things are fully private; others may be conditionally visible when a particular situation calls for them.

Fully private

Some thoughts, messages, and personal context belong to the person preparing them and should not be treated as generally shareable information.

Conditionally visible

Some guidance only becomes relevant under defined circumstances or for a particular person. Its usefulness depends on that context.

Intentionally shared

Some information is prepared to help someone act later. Sharing it should still be an intentional choice, not an automatic consequence.

That is why privacy must be part of the architecture itself, not just a reassuring message around it.
AfterMyLife is built around the principle that control, clarity, and exposure should be carefully separated.

Phone numbers and contact details are used only for account security and essential service
communication. They are never made public.

03 · Permission with purpose

Controlled access matters

Sensitive information becomes dangerous when access is vague. Permissions should exist for a reason, and boundaries should be clear.

“Access should follow intention, not curiosity.”

A clear access model starts with a clear question: who should be able to understand this, and under what conditions? That question is more useful than treating access as a simple choice between open and closed.

People should be able to distinguish between information they are keeping for themselves, information prepared for a trusted person, and information that should only become relevant later. Good permission logic supports those distinctions without making the experience feel like an exercise in administration.

01

Use the narrowest audience that still makes the information useful.

02

Give sensitive details the context and boundary they require.

03

Avoid exposing a whole record when only one part is relevant.

04

Make important choices clear enough to revisit with confidence.

Additional safeguards

Protection includes human verification

Sensitive transmission should never be triggered lightly. When a death is reported, the process includes human verification before any transfer can take place. This helps protect against false declarations and ensures that access does not move forward without review.

04 · The technical foundation

Security as a foundation, not a feature

AfterMyLife is designed for serious information. That requires serious handling.

“Serious protection is made of many quiet decisions.”

This means approaching the platform with a security mindset that includes thoughtful architecture, disciplined permissions, secure infrastructure principles, and a product culture built around protection rather than convenience alone.

The goal is not to use technical language for its own sake. The goal is to deserve trust through careful defaults, responsible handling, clear boundaries, and a willingness to examine what could go wrong before it does.

Encrypted at rest and in transit

All documents in your vault and personal messages are encrypted on our servers (at rest) and protected during transmission (in transit) using industry-standard TLS protocols. We employ bank-grade security to ensure your data is safe.

Strictly private storage

Your sensitive files are never accessible via public URLs. Access is strictly controlled through the application’s role-based architecture, which verifies permissions before granting access.

European service, Swiss file storage

AfterMyLife operates on infrastructure located in Europe, while user files are stored in Switzerland. We follow the GDPR and the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP), combining strong privacy standards with a deliberate approach to data location and control.

Data retention, not indefinite storage

When an account is cancelled or reaches the end of its subscription, data is not deleted immediately. It remains accessible for 12 months, with periodic reminder emails sent so the owner can reactivate the account if desired. After this period, a final 3-month window follows during which the account can still be reopened by contacting our team, with a last warning sent shortly before this window closes. If no action is taken, all personal content is permanently and automatically erased. Only an anonymous audit record is kept, with no personal content, for accountability purposes.

Hashed credentials

Your passwords are mathematically hashed. They are never stored in plain text, ensuring your account entry point remains secure.

Regular backup and resilience measures are in place to reduce the risk of accidental data loss and to
support continuity over time.

Independence and governance

Independent by conviction, sovereign by design

AfterMyLife is an independent company, built in Switzerland and financed without dependence on
advertising or data monetization. Our business model is simple and honest: our clients pay for our
service, and that is our only source of income. We have no advertising partners, no data brokers, and no hidden commercial agenda.

Our service operates on infrastructure located in Europe, and your files are stored in Switzerland, in compliance with strict European and Swiss data protection standards. This choice is deliberate. We
believe sensitive personal information deserves more than a marketing promise — it deserves a legal
and geographical home worthy of trust.

Paid subscriptions are currently available to residents of the European Union, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Iceland, and Norway. Beneficiaries and certifiers invited by an owner can be located anywhere in the
world, free of charge, since they do not hold a paid subscription themselves.

“We will never fund AfterMyLife by selling, exploiting, or sharing your personal data. Our success depends on your trust, not on your attention.”

Why Switzerland and Europe matter

Switzerland is recognized worldwide for its tradition of discretion, its data protection laws, and its
political neutrality. Hosting your files in Switzerland, with our service operating on European
infrastructure, means your most personal information stays within a strict legal framework you can rely
on.

05 · The human responsibility

A human responsibility

When someone prepares for what comes after them, they are sharing something vulnerable. That vulnerability deserves more than technical competence. It deserves care.

Dignity

A personal message or private wish is not just data. It can carry identity, vulnerability, and the shape of a relationship.

Care

Responsible handling means reducing avoidable confusion for the person preparing a record and for the people who may encounter it later.

Trust

Every access decision, explanation, and product boundary contributes to whether people feel safe enough to prepare honestly.

Security here is part of dignity. It is part of responsibility. It is part of what makes this kind of preparation possible in the first place.

06 · How we communicate

Clarity without overpromising

The philosophy is simple: serious protection, thoughtful design, calm communication, and no sensationalism.

No serious platform should pretend that trust comes from slogans alone. Sensitive subjects deserve serious protection, thoughtful design, and calm communication.

AfterMyLife is built to take sensitive preparation seriously, to minimize unnecessary exposure, and to create a clearer, safer framework for information that should never be handled casually. We would rather be precise about what the service is designed to do and honest about its boundaries.

“Calm communication is part of responsible protection.”
